Im back!

After a long time off without a post I have decided to go back to the grind.
I spent Christmas and new year in Florida and OZ and have basically started
from scratch again.

i am starting with a very limited bankroll and have been grinding I Poker for the
last 10 days with a reasonable amount of success so its time to outline my goals
for the year.

1.Dont tilt.............
2.Be playing 1/2 and 2/4 regularly and well rolled.
3.Go deep in a major Irish tourney this year.
4.Get to Vegas.

Lakes of Killarney Festival is on this weekend but sadly I wont be playing in it.
This should be a good weekend of poker as Connie and the boys do put on an

Well that month is over and good riddance!I made the princely sum of $45 playing cash plus$112.36 rakeback.On STTs and MTTs i just broke even and really havent played an awful lot during the second half of the month.I wasnt focused with other stuff going on and decided to give it a break.
February is a new beginning and having searched the sites I finally found an STT structure with rakeback that I like and have decided to give it a real go,mixing it up with cash also to try and build my(currently) meagre roll.Once i get last months rakeback ($350 approx) I will give some cash a go again.
Goals for February: STTs +$1000
Cash play better,make fewer mistakes,make at least $300

For the first week of the new year I decided to play 150 sit n gos on FT just to see how i got on.So here it is

I found this really hard.The first 100 were ok and I was running at 20% but the final 50 were a real struggle and My win rate dropped dramatically.I think to do well at these I would need to play fewer daily.I am currently starting off 4 at a time and adding one if I bust early,they would generally take about 35 mins to finish so I can get in about 7 an hour,which is really about as much as I can handle.I get stale when I play any more.Next week I might try a slightly different approach and maybe just try one session a day in the morning just to see how I get on.Yanks who are up all night make many mistakes!
Now to the cash results.I havent played a lot due to the FT thing and have only played 2500 hand for a profit of $161.Will be trying a lot harder next week.

Final post of the year.Not a good week on the cash front lost over $250 on the week.Running bad,coolers etc,plus I didnt play a lot,only just over 3K hands.Tomorrow begins another year and a new challenge.STTs or cash, which is best for me.Happy new Year!!!!!!!!!!!

The year is at an end.Overall I think its been a good year,I seem to have improved my tourney game both live and online even though I dont play a lot live.
2007 live I am up over 10K for the year mostly thanks to a $9500 cash in the IPC in january when I finished 10th.This was a good experience for me and I think I played well enough overall.I also finished 5th in the cue club spring festival for the second year running and i final tabled an end of the month there as well.My third festival of the year was the Waterford Festival where I ran unbelievably bad in the main event.Nothing of note there and other than that took more than my fair share of our weekly pub game which became a nice little earner!

Online I have had a strange year.I have been experimenting a lot with my game,trying different styles,mixing it up a bit more and have done well on some sites and not so well on others.

I have also started to play more cash and that has gone quite well and I am learning a lot
as I go along and intend to make that my mainstay for 2008.It seems to be the most consistent way of staying ahead of the game.
For 2008 I am starting afresh with a limited roll and intend to build it up gradually.I think it will be about $1000 and I intend to fund a family trip to OZ next December with it.The plan at the moment goes like this.I will start out playing cash on green joker with roughly half my roll and STTs on Full Tilt with the rest.I want to see which is the more profitable including rakeback on Full Tilt and "loyalty bonus" on green joker.I will only play tourneys occasionally(sigh)and I promise to give a weekly update on my standings.So thats it.On the first I will outline my roll and we will take it from there.

What a week!It started really well and continued on the upward curve until Saturday.I was hitting everything and my reads were goodIt all went wrong on Saturday and i got a little bit tilty but dropped down to 5c/10c to bust a few monsters!
On the tourney front I final tabled a $30 freezeout on green joker finishing 5th for about $430.That was it really i bubbled the full tilt $69 freezeout when my AQ was no match for the BB AA!!!! and I tried restealing with 22 in the $150 freezeout late on when the CO raised I figured he was good enough to fold a lot here but not KK obviously.
Wont be playing a lot this week with Christmas and all and I hope to do a Yearly recap next week.At least it has been a profitable Year and i hope to build on that for next year.Have a good one and see you in the new year.I am playing a live sat for the Killarney Hold Em Festival over christmas.I expect to win my ticket for this here so setting me up for a good weekend of poker in Killarney on the second weekend in January.I wont be playing the IPC in galway over this.I cant really be away two weeks running and so wont be trying to improve my 10th place finish from this year........working sucks!!!!!!

Just an update to show how this cash thing is going,as you can see by my graph I had a very spewy week back and really tilted off a lot of profit in the middle of the week.It was mostly playing tired and not having the discipline to leave well alone!

I have made a good recovery towards the end of the week and was up almost $400 for the week + rakeback so I am happy enough with my progress.I still am not aggressive enough on the turn and river which is probably costing me some profit and the tilt factor when someone gets there.!I will do a better update on thursday after my wednesday tourneys.

Came home from work last night and decided to give a few tourneys a go.Played a shootout on party(free money) a $24 freezeout on FT and $27.50 25K guar on stars.
No good on the first two but on stars I ran good as well as playing really well.I honestly dont think I made a bad decision the whole way through it.I played very loose early on to try and get paid when I hit and it worked!
I was down to about 1500 chips in the second level but then i hit str8s sets, flushes and got paid every time.They were calling my river bets with A high on a couple of occasions!I was in the top 100 all the way through from the first break except for about 10 minutes.I pulled off a good bluff for a big pot early on by 3 betting on flop with air.I just felt he was weak but this hand was my downfall really.

Still no PC so the family one is getting abused at the mo.Played a few sit n gos during the week and did OK.Played a few tourneys on wed night,cashing in a few and final tabling the 20 1 rebuy 1 top up on stars,went out in 9th when the SB pushed into my BB,I called with 99 and of course he hits a K on the flop to put me on the rail.I think I played really well in this particular tourney,never picking up monster hands just stealing and restealing with mostly rubbish.Since I started playing cash I have found the break from tourneys has sharpened me up considerably and I seem to be making good decisions most of the time.
I final tabled 3 times in 15 tourneys this week but couldnt put one away.Raced on the FT of the Full Tilt 32000 guar with AQ against 99 only to see a Q99 flop to be out in 6th.The stars rebuy where my 99 was no match for K5(sigh) to finish in 9th and the 7K guar on stars yesterday where i made a what turned out to be a bad call with 66 on a JJ9 board to the monster chip leader who was really throwing his weight about.I figured my 66 was good and called his all in only for him to flip AA for the umpteenth time at the ft to go out in 6th again.
Playing some more tonight and we will hopefully land a biggy!We live in hope!

Just a quick update to say since my PC went down I have played two days of tourneys only on stars and Full Tilt.Yesterday was an ok day cashing in the 100 freezeout and the 20 FO on stars,went to FT to play the 69 freezeout also and went pretty deep in that,so a profitable day overall.Today I played on Stars the 5 FO, 3 rebuy ,10 FO and the 50 FO.I cashed in the 5 finishing 22nd of 10 zillion! and the 10 FO where i finished in the 80s.The 50 was a disaster,lasted about 2 hours when i ran 44 into AJ GG me.I had decided at that stage that i wanted a stack and took my chance but no good.
On FT I played the 24 deep double stack FO,Having won 2 tokens earlier in 2 table token tourneys.These I like,they are a good way of getting into tourneys cheaply.The standard is pretty poor TBH.I didnt progress past the 3rd hour in this one and while it started i put my other token onto a STT for the 150 FO and won it!
This was one of my better tourneys to say the least .I sucked out with 99 against 10 10 and JJ all in pre only for me to hit the str8 on the river.I sucked out on AA with KK all in 3 tables out when i hit a flush on the river!I played well overall and finished in 6th when my AQ was no match for 99 .flop A99!GG me
This just shows that it can be done.I turned 2 attempts at $8 token tourneys into an entry in the $24 FO and the $150 FO with a return of over $2000.So now I have a roll for my cash game challenge.I have to turn that into €10000 next year to cover my trip to Australia.
God is good!Thats it for now,BTW my hard drive is knackered so I am getting it replaced so its back to normal next week.

Here we go! just a quick update to show my position to date.It was going really well until today and i lost a couple of buy ins rather stupidly.Dont play when you are tired!Neverthe less I am reasonably happy with my progress,even though I have a couple of leaks which I am trying to work on,namely not agg enough post flop and min raises mean a set!Also when it smells like AA tastes like AA,looks like AA,IT IS AA!!!!!!!!!thats all for now.Next week I will add a few hands for comments.I am also on the raked hands race on green joker currently in the top 20.Hope to finish high up to purchase a new monitor.

Sorry about the lack of updates but I have been busy at work and havent really had the time.

Above is my pokertracker stats for october.I have started playing cash almost exclusively and having started on 18th october I just wanted to put up my stats for october.
Things didnt exactly go to plan but still its a positive start.I started on ladbrokes but have since moved to Greenjokerpoker
Its gone really well I think,I have been checking out 2+2 for advice on hands as well as boards,there is a lot of free info out there if you care to search.

Havent played a lot lately ,been too busy at work,but I have come close on a couple of occasions in the 50K guar on stars.I feel a big result coming in that tourney soon.I played the 6 max WCOOP on stars tonight and played like a fish.6 max doesnt suit me at all,I just cant seem to master it.I was out very early but i also played the 50K also and made it down to 59th without getting AA once.I got KK once and QQ once.If i could get a run in one of these i am sure i can take one down.
I prereged for the WATERFORD WINTER FESTIVAL in November,they expect it to be a sellout
with 300 players at $500 buy in 10000 stack and 45 min clock.I am trying to get the €500 together at the moment.Laddies sit n gos seem to be the softest game around.I am consistently making money there so I will stick with it.

Went to liverpool for the weekend on a stag,played a £50 rebuy at the gala on friday night,nice place terrible structure but good fun.Went out early when my squeeze with 54 h was called by AK.I hit the 4 on the flop,5 on the turn and spade on the river to give him a flush!
It was a really good weekend until the leaving of liverpool with a 5 hour delay on the flight and Kerry V Dublin on while we were in the air.The result was a good one for the kingdom another title beckons for the green & gold.

Made a determined attempt to go deep today in the stars 50k guaranteed Played exceptionally well for the first three hours but then..............nothing,not a playable hand for an hour and worse I had the chip leader to my left who was giving out bad beats to everyone.He just could not fold paint!Eventually I was pushing from EP just to avoid him.I think I showed down 4 hands in the whole tourney.Late on I pushed twice in a row with 10's with no action and then with AQ to be called by AJ , AK6 flop 9 turn,6 river for a split.My exit hand was 10 9 hearts in the BB.There was an EP raise from a big stack to 9999 (blinds 2000/4000 ante 400)the SB flat called (weak player)I decide to push with 30K knowing the big stack would definately fold and fully expecting weak player to fold too.He didnt ,AQ ,I hit an up and down str8 draw on flop but miss my outs GG me out in 34th for about $200.I think my push here was OK,to final table I needed to gamble and there was over 30k in the pot before my push,but thats poker.
Sit n' Go's are going well,not playing much, visitors staying and I am going to Liverpool this weekend so I am being a good barman for now!

Havent started my cash game challenge yet,i have neteller issues so it looks like it will be monday before i start it now.I have instead been playing 5 handed turbo STTs on laddies.I started playing the$20 ones before moving up to the $30 tables.I have played 13 today for a total outlay of $352 .

Finished second tonight in a $25 freezeout on ladbrokes for $835.00.Played really well and was badly outchipped heads up.It was a good battle that lasted about 15 mins.I seem to do well on ladbrokes tourneys.I have played about a dozen and have a 1st,2nd and 4th.I won a $100 freezeout,2nd tonight and 4th on wed in a $3 rebuy.Still havent decided on my cash game challenge but Full Tilt still appeals.I was looking at some cash game stategy articles on http://www.pocketfives.com/ for some advice,nothing too special there but the bankroll articles were very interesting.Some good reading there for anyone who is interested.
The cash game challenge will most likely start tomorrow.I will keep you updated on results etc.I will be starting off at 10c/25c $25 buy in giving me 20 buy ins to begin with.I know its not really enough but i will wait until i have at least 50 buy ins for 25/50 before i move up,thats a total of $2500.Wow seems a lot!Better get to work.!

OK guys,need a challenge to keep me focused.My cash game is not as it should be so i am thinking of trying to turn $500 into $5000 over the next few months.I need suggestions as to the best site for SOFT cash games preferrably with rakeback as this i believe is very important to my bottom line.I really like Full Tilt for this but i am open to suggestions.My pokertracker has gone busto,I cant get into it at the moment so I might have to reinstall it.Tourneys are going OK at the moment,cashing regularly but no big win.I had great fun in the stars $3 rebuy last friday finishing in 50th place after a very long night.It was an education playing with lots of donkeys.! Havent posted in an age.Been very busy at work and didnt really have the time to update.What has happened in the meantime?Well i finally took down a $100 freezeout on stars for almost 5K.It was a long time coming but i finally made it.
I was on holidays as well and that ate up my bankroll so i am playing underfunded at the moment.I am playing far too many tourneys for my roll and it is tough trying to keep afloat.I have decided to cut back and play more cash on Full Tilt.I am currently playing 50c/$1 6 max and doing really well.I comfortably beat 1/2 before but i gotta get the bankroll up to go back to that level.I keep coming across Chris Ferguson,he is on a mission to turn $1 into $10000 and he is doing OK.He is an excellent player who knows his limits,when he played TJ cloutier heads up for his wsop he knew that TJ would outplay him post flop and he gambled on one hand A9 i think,and outdrew TJ.Seems like a nice guy too.He will talk to us fish!
The plan at the moment is to play tourneys on wednesday and friday and mostly cash the rest of the week.I see on pocket fives irish rankings i am currently number 3.I hope to move up to number 2 if i could get a few good scores.I went deep last night in FTs 32000 guaranteed finishing 10th.I lost two monster pots to the same guy late on to put me out.First he limped in 7 handed i had AK in mp i raised the pot folded back to him he eventually pushes for about 5K with A10 of course he hits and i am badly damaged.Then 5 handed he min raises from UTG which from him was prob a small pair i look down at 99 and push he calls with 77 and hits the 7 on the river GG me.He was a weak player who got very lucky twice!!!!!

Tournament wise no good day since $100 freezeout yesterday I was on the button with 99 blinds 100/200 guy in MP who was raising a lot made it 350 to go so I push my 1350,I cant fold there right?You have to get chips somewhere in these or you are gone.He turns over AA no help GG.I played the $10 rebuy this morning,couldnt win a race before the break.The last hand before the break i was all in with 74 off so I could double rebuy and top up!
2nd hand back i was in the BB with A6 spades when the guy on the button made it 600 to go,I pushed,he had over 20000 chips and called instantly with the monster that is A7;pair on board,it looked odds on for a chop but turn was a 3 river a 5,his 7 plays GG again!!!!!

Will probably play some tourneys later,wont get much in for the rest of the week due to work.Talk later

Two good results over the weekend.5th in killarney for €1600 and i chopped the $100 freezeout on stars for $2762.13 today!Finally made the breakthrough on stars.Played really well especially on the bubble.Ran JJ into AA on the final table but I was so far in front I was still in ok shape,didnt panic and came back to chop with the AA guy.More detailed update tomorrow.

Havent updated in a while due to playing in killarneys spring festival at the weekend.I made the final table finishing 5th for a nice payout.I wasnt in the best of form on the saturday being very tired for some reason and wasnt really looking forward to playing to be honest.
I sat down at my table only to see the infamous Kieran Flipper Walsh was to be my big blind,no easy pots there so!To my left i had Richie Lawlor a really fun guy, great to have at the table and a very good player to boot.I also had a few of the Killarney regulars at the table and one or two whom I had never played with before.
The first really interesting hand was a monster pot with AA and KK all in preflop during the first level, flop KQ10 turn J, putting the AA back in front only for another Q on the river!Who says that never happens in a live game!
My first pot I raised from MP with JJ, richie had limped,Imade it 250 to go he called,flop Jxx with 2 spadesHe bets i call,turn a blank.He checks so i bet out around 950 he calls.River is another spade,he checks again,I like a donk instead of checking behind bet out 1500 which he calls saying he cant raise just in case turning over 85 spades for the flush.I was kicking myself for betting the river,it was a stupid bet and woke me up a bit.
Later on i got JJ again in mp made it 200 to go.Two callers flop comes 664 with two clubs.Checked around to me ,i bet almost the pot one caller ,turn is x spades putting a second spade on board villian checks again,I have him on most likely a middle pair 77 88 99 or possibly a club draw so i bet out again almost the pot again.He calls again,alarm bells are ringing at this stage,I still think my JJ is probably good but I am a little worried.The river comes a x spade,he checks and i check behind.He turns over K10 spades for runner runner flush to beat my 2 pair!I was down to 3500 chips at this early stage thanks to a donkey calling on the flop with NO hand and luckboxing a backdoor flush.Needless to say he didnt last very long.
Shortly after this i was all in on flop with a draw,taking it down when he folded to my all in reraise.I tried to keep out of trouble after that as i now had some room to manouver.Our table was broken after another while,richie and I being moved to the same table when this hand happened.I raised in mp with jj,guy called greg from Killarney (V.aag when he hits flop) calls on the button,Richie in the big blind moves all in,I call instantly figuring Richie was squeezing,Greg folds,sure enough Richie turns over A3 s.My hooks hold up and i am on my way!
Another significant hand happened later on when I got KK utg,I standard raise 3x,Greg reraises me I dwell it up for a while then announce ALL IN.He calls in an instant turning over AJ h,a K on flop yet another double up.
These were my most significant hands of Day one.I made the final table 5th in chips and proceeded to miss the start of day 2,having been late leaving home.No damage done with missing only 4 hands.The dynamics of the table were bad for me with the two big stacks being my small and big blind,not the ideal situation for a medium stack but however I battled on the best I could,taking down a couple of pots even putting out Matt Dobbins when his 55 was no match for my QQ.Eventually the blinds were kicking in and i pushed on the button with the monster that is 10 6 d being called by the chip leader with A4 ,the rest is history,GG and all that.
I must say as usual Connie put on a great show with a well structured eventwith some excellent players.Full credit to Connie and his staff they make you feel welcome and have a "can do" attitude.Very well played sir!

Played our weekly pub tourney last night,played ok but eventually ran KK into JJ,J on river ,GG and all that.No miracle comeback unlike last week so my 3 week winning streak comes to an end.
Online on monday i had one of those days where i could have won really big but ended up losing.I got rivered in 3 really big pots which made the diffence on the day.Those 3 pots totaled over $400.Instead i lost on the day.Those days do happen,you have to take them as they come.

I have been trying to put up some of my more interesting hands on a hand viewer that i use but for some reason i cant seem to upload them at the moment,when i get it sorted out I will post some just to see what you think and all comments are welcome.Good and bad!

On tuesday i had a much better day,I ran good, my hands held up and i played heads up cash with an absoloute fish!!!!!!!He really hadnt a clue.I managed to wangle $60 off him before he gave up.I wish he had stayed for longer.On another full ring table i was down $85 due to a nasty river card but i brought it back to being up $30 due to solid play.At my levels it really doesnt pay to get fancy.Bet your big hands strong and you will often get a non believer who will call with A high or third pair.It really does amaze me how people make some of these calls sometimes.

With cash games i always buy in for the max and keep it topped up to the max.I dont understand people who buy in say for 40 in a 100 table.Whats the point?If you get a big hand you are only decreasing your winning possibilities.I dont like this buying in short at all.I just cant justify it.OK rant over , results time

The three most important rules for playing poker are 1.bankroll 2.bankroll 3.bankroll.
Get the message?Dont play outside your bankroll chasing losses,why? Because you only end up with more!!!!If i go on a downswing i have two release valves:-
1.A cat for the kicking of!
2.Buy in for micro stakes cash game 1c/2c and just go all in 3 or 4 times
The satisfaction you get from busting AA with 74 off will cure your blues!
More importantly you will not do damage to your bankroll.

I also think that in any one session online you should put no more than 10% of your roll at risk.If you lose it kick the cat!Then switch off the PC and leave it until tomorrow.NEVER NEVER chase your losses.
Some people also have an aversion to moving down levels.I thankfully have never had this,I can drop down if i withdraw my winnings and start again.It really doesnt bother me.I might be playing 2/4 cash on one site and 25c/50c on another at the same time depending on my roll at the time on those sites.
Live i work my roll differently,I usually only play tourneys live and if i have the money i play.If i dont i wont!, simple as that.I am fortunate to be up over €10000 so far this year live so this is not a problem for me.I like to play well structured tourneys and my next outing is the Cue club in killarney main event €400 buy in.Last year i made the final table in this,I hope to improve on that this year(I always try to win every tourney i play).I dont get to play live as much as i would like due to my work,but love to play when i can.This tourney in killarney is a really well run event with 45 min clock and a max field of 80.Connie o Sullivan is a gentleman and runs an excellent show there as well as being a very good player himself.Thankfully he wont be playing this as he is TD,one less to worry about.If anyone reading this ever comes to killarney give connie a shout and play in his club,a good night is guaranteed.

ok,I like saturdays!!!!!!!Dont play much on saturdays but i always do well when i do.Seems to be very fishy day!I played for about 2 hours in total and made $128.00 profit putting me in the black for the week.I played mostly cash and 4 heads up STT's winning 3.I think i will stick with them a little bit more for now,I was checking myback results and i have had excellent returns on them.I will talk a bit tomorrow about my views on bankroll management or lack there of!!!!!!Its something that has troubled me in the past but i have got it under control now i think.Anyway more of that tomorrow.

not too much happening today,only one MTT a 20+2 180 on stars.Got it allin on turn on a 78AQ board with 78 knowing i was in front only for another A on river(ugh).That pot would have made me massive chip leader but alas it was not to be.Made a profit on the day thanks to my cash games.I think i will give stt's a break for a while,they seem to have gone against me for now.I might try a few heads up sit 'n gos I seem to do well at them.Talk soon.

roller coaster day,up a lot down a lot then finally back up.Cash tables seem to be going well.Made money at every table i played both 6 max and full ring.Sit & go's not so good .Played 11 25+2 and 1 16+1(accidentally) for a return of +141.31.WELL i suppose its not so bad really,it paid for my 100+9 freezeout.Same old story there finished 15 9 getting paid,ran 99 into KK, 9 on flop K on turn GG.Nothing else really talk later.

god damn it!!!! Today was one of those days.Nothing went right,almost.I must have bubbled at LEAST 10 sit n gos today,I couldnt win a race to save my life.
On the cash side of things lost almost 3 buy ins at the 25 50 getting stacked twice with AA.I love them and i hate them!
The only redeeming feature of the day was the stars $100 freezeout which i managed to cash in for almost $200.The problem with these for me is i cant hold on to chips when we make the money,today i was chip leader on the bubble,27 being paid.Played the bubble well,increased my stack yet i still only came 14th which was disappointing.I just seem to have trouble going really deep in these.I went out with AQ all in preflop against QQ, gg and all that!My luck will hopefully change on the tourney side of things soon.
I went really deep in the stars million on sunday,cashing for almost $1400,going out when my AQ was no match for Q9 in a 400000 pot,gg again.I think my recent results have shown that i have a decent tourney game,I can switch gears,spot the weak players, make moves,I just cant get lucky at the real crucial times in these.

Tonight was the weekly game at the pub,a larger than usual turnout with 11 playing generating a pool of €330, 3 to get paid 1st 210, 2nd 90 and 3rd 30.I got off to my usual flying start reaching over 25k after 2 levels when disaster struck.A 3 way all in preflop with KK QQ JJ,me holding KK but alas a J arrived on the flop so dropping me back to under 5k.I gradually worked my way back up and arrived 4 handed chip leader,eventually chopping heads up for €150 each even though at this stage i was behind.Thats 3 weeks in a row cashing 2 wins and a chop.We also played a turbo game after,blinds doubling every 7 hands.This is my speciality,and duly won it for another €50.

To recap total outlay €40 returns €200 profit on nite €160 total live profit €160

I also played some 25/50 (cents that is) 6 max on full tilt for about 20 minutes or so gathering up the princely sum of $10.20 making my total profit online to $14.70 LOL

ok guys first post and welcome to my poker world.This is basically my views on all
things poker.I will be posting my results, my take on things in the poker world and
my ambitions for the future.
Tonight i played 4 stt 25+2 turbos 1 cash for $112.50 not great but still profitable
so total profit of $4.50 after the night.
My profit for the year so far is approx €12000 live and $8000 online but for the purposes of this i am starting from scratch,so total profit for the year of $4.50 online and €0 live.

Tuesday nite i play at our pubs live game €30 freezeout usually 8 or 9 in this,good fun and generally profitable,though the standard is improving.Wednesday is generally my tourney day online,so i hope to have some kind of a decent result there.

I have been running good in tourneys lately cashing a lot but just cant seem to get the breaks
when the crucial hands come .This hopefully will change soon but my tourney game seems to
